Shorten rear shocks

Hi there
I wonder if someone has shorten there rear shocks, about 1 inch (2,5 cm)or more.
I think it would be possible because the shocks of the Savage are pretty stiff and tight.
If some one did this or tryed but not was successful let me know, I think I will give it a try over the winter.
Is it possible?
